When most people think about youth fitness, they picture sports practices, gym class, or simply staying active outside. While those are all important, there is another piece of the puzzle that can make a lasting impact on a child’s health, athletic performance, and confidence.
That piece is learning how to move well.
Sherpa Basecamp is a 10 week Youth Athletic Development program in Westport, CT, designed for boys and girls ages 9 to 12. Whether your child plays multiple sports, is preparing for a new season, or simply needs a positive introduction to exercise, Basecamp provides the coaching, structure, and encouragement to help them succeed.
Held after school from Monday through Thursday, September 14 through November 19, 2026, Basecamp gives kids a productive place to build strength, confidence, and athletic ability while giving parents peace of mind that their child is learning in a safe, professionally coached environment.
Sherpa Basecamp isn’t about pushing kids through workouts or seeing who can lift the most weight the fastest. And it’s not a one size fits all youth class where every child does the same exercises regardless of experience or ability.
It’s coached by the same professional trainers who work with Sherpa’s adult clients every day, but scaled for small groups of kids, with every session closely supervised. Coaches watch how each child moves, give real-time feedback, and adjust so every kid is challenged at the right level while building safe, efficient movement.
Our philosophy is simple: movement quality comes before load.
Each session, kids build skills that carry over into nearly every sport and activity they’ll ever try. They work on:
Because every child progresses differently, coaches continuously adjust exercises throughout the session. Some kids are ready for more advanced progressions, while others benefit from extra reps on the fundamentals. That attention helps every child improve at their own pace while feeling successful and supported.
The result: kids who are stronger, more coordinated, better prepared for athletics, and less prone to injury as they grow.
One of the biggest misconceptions about youth strength training is that it is only for competitive athletes.
Sherpa Basecamp welcomes both.
Young athletes can improve speed, strength, coordination, and overall athletic readiness before their next season. Developing these qualities early can help improve performance in nearly every sport while creating movement habits that support long-term success.
Children who are not involved in organized sports gain something equally valuable: confidence in their own bodies, improved coordination, and healthy habits that can last a lifetime.
Every child deserves the opportunity to feel capable, strong, and comfortable moving.
Physical strength is only part of the journey.
As children master new movements, complete challenges, and see measurable progress, they develop confidence that extends into school, sports, and everyday life.
They learn that success comes from practice, patience, and consistent effort. They discover what they are capable of accomplishing when they are supported by knowledgeable coaches who encourage progress instead of perfection.
These lessons stay with them long after the program ends.
That is what Move Your Boundaries is all about.
Helping kids discover they are capable of more than they thought possible while preparing them for everything they love to do Beyond the Gym.
Sherpa Basecamp is designed with parents in mind.
Held after school, the program gives children a productive, healthy environment where they can stay active, develop new skills, and build friendships while parents finish the workday.
Instead of spending more time in front of a screen, kids spend their afternoons moving, learning, and growing under the guidance of experienced Sherpa coaches in a premium training environment.
Parents can have confidence knowing their child is not simply exercising. They are receiving the same thoughtful coaching philosophy that has made Sherpa a trusted destination for personal training. Every session is supervised, every movement is coached, and every child receives individual attention within the energy and motivation of a small group.
Parents often ask whether strength training is appropriate for children.
The answer is yes, when it is properly coached.
That coaching is what makes Sherpa Basecamp different.
Every participant begins with a readiness check with Coach Scott to ensure the program is the right fit. Throughout the 10 week experience, Sherpa coaches actively supervise every session, providing real-time instruction, technique corrections, encouragement, and exercise modifications based on each child’s abilities.
Just as we do with our adult personal training clients, we meet each child where they are today and help them progress safely toward where they want to go.
The result is an environment where kids build strength with confidence, parents have peace of mind, and every participant leaves feeling more capable than when they arrived.
Sherpa Basecamp runs Monday through Thursday from September 14 through November 19, 2026 and is designed specifically for boys and girls ages 9 to 12.
Whether your child is preparing for the next sports season, looking to get stronger and more athletic, or simply needs a solid introduction to movement, Basecamp provides the expert coaching, supportive environment, and individual attention to help them succeed.
At Sherpa, we believe the habits built today shape stronger, healthier adults tomorrow. Basecamp is where that journey begins.
Reserve your child’s spot today and let them discover what they’re capable of.
